Trip to the Swiss mountains, Bettmeralp - Wallis
So here we are, 2018! And up in the Swiss mountains already. Family vacation same story as pretty much every year (when my husband does not get injured right before) ;)
My husbands family has the tradition of staying on the beautiful Bettmeralp for almost 30 years. It's a place beyond all imagination. Absolutely car free & you can only reach it by air transportation. It snowed before, during and probably after our trip. So we got to enjoy the most dreamy scenery and we have surely not seen that much snow in a long time!
Simplifying life was my motto for the week. It started with packing.
Next year I will even bring less. I was surprised how little I actually used from the packed things, even with a baby.. it's possible to travel light.
Our snack pack for the three hour train ride:
- Self made trail mix (stored in our Klean Kanteen container from purple & green)
- Squeeze for little Lee (thank you purple & green for providing)
- Apples, since you know, those guys are tough
- dried tomatoes from Alnatura
We stayed at a traditional "Chalet" - the Chalet Erika - same place as every year.
The first two days I took care of the baby & my husband went skiing- I joined him the second day in the afternoon. Last time skiing was two years ago, when I wasn't a mom (last year my husband was injured and we couldn't go).
So here's what skiing just taught me: I was suddenly confronted with fear. I was afraid of falling and getting a serious injury. Frankly: I was never afraid of giving birth to my son, of certain pain, but standing up there I was very short of giving up after my first ski run.
My husband, my supporter was a big help conquering my fear. Aswell as my nine year old nephew, who confidently drove down the hill ;) I remember not being afraid two years ago. And I know becoming a mom brought a lot of fears into my life, mostly it's the fear of loss.
And one thing I want to work on in 2018 is:
overcoming fears & celebrating tiny victories afterwards!!
My mothers heart got so much more sensitive.
I think gentle and sensitive is fine & needed, but fear is something different & not necessarily needed. In contradiction, it hinders us. It hinders us to grow & experiencing many beautiful things and make unforgettable moments.
2017 was a challenging one, since becoming a family of three brought a lot of changes. In this brand new year I want to settle, cherish the daily routine of being a mom, learning new things (because I'm not a person of standing still). What are your "goals" for this new year?
Don't be afraid to set up some things you try to achieve in 2018. Don't think that your goals are too tiny or too boring. When you start at some point, you're right! I think we should all still challenge ourselves, it helps us grow!
A few of my goals:
- laugh more often
- to become more compassionate
- drink more water & tea ;)
- stretch more often
- learn to properly knit ;) (thanks to pret-a-faire for the knit-kit) ;)
- to live with even less things
- own more moments
- use the phone less
- start a new business..
Another challenge for me the past days was the weather. As you know me I love to be active. The harsh snow made this very challenging. Thanks God that there's a swimming pool and gym up there. and, we got a brunch invitation - read more about it all the way at the end of this entry :)
I was very happy about the brunch invitation from Hotel Waldhaus - WOOOOOW, what a set up! They had me at the fruit platter ;) I've rarely seen such a wonderful buffet prepared with so much love and served with so much kindness. The hotel is located on a little hill. Little one was pleased with the tasty mango and pumpkin bread. We will definitely come back!
thank you eli ju for the cute pointed cap!
