a little backpacking through Switzerland
my friend from Los Angeles came to visit us the past week. so exciting that I got to show her Switzerland. Even I got to visit places where I've never been. She wanted to see one castle at least, Bern, Geneva and the mountains. So then, let's go..
I'd like to share some incredible places, shops, hints & tips for Zurich, Bern, the region of Thun and Geneva. and I challenged myself to only pack the most necessary things into my bag from Sandqvist - which was super practical.
Zurich, day 1
+ We started our day with farmers market "hopping" ;) first the market at Bürkliplatz & then Helvetiaplatz (both: every Tuesday & Friday). After a stroll over the market & some fruit bargains we got coffee & breakfast at John Baker, right next to the market. This is pretty much my very favourite thing to do on warm summer mornings.
+ Hike up to Uetliberg (I call it my Mount Hollywood of Zurich). It takes around 45' minutes from the station "Trimlie". Always depending on which trail you hit. The view from up there is amazing.
Another place for an amazing view, directly in the city: Lindenhof
+ Botanical Garden that was actually my first time at the Botanical Garden. Thank you Keilah for taking me there. Even though it's just a few minutes away from Zurich Stadelhofen it's just a perfect place to escape the city life. The park was not crowded at all. Next time I'll come here for a picnic. Free entry.
+ If you only got a few days to explore the city then I'd warmly recommend you to get a free bike from the city. and my friend got a three day Swiss travel pass for chi 179.00 - which is a great deal.
Bern, day 2
+ Yay - hello Bern. I need a coffee, the place to go: Adrianos! Beans on fleek, trust me! I just figured out that Einstein Kaffee (that's where Albert Einstein lived) took over the coffee at Münsterplattform. A very nice location to have a cup of coffee. Einstein au jardin.
+ the perfect picnic location for Bern: Rosengarten! hey, or take your girlfriend on a date ;) Before the quick hike you got to see the Bärengarten and make sure to visit the cute Swiss Brand Museum right next to it - cutest museum ever been.
Geneva, day 3
+ Already the train ride along the vineyards is worth travelling down there. We had coffee at Boréal (an amazing coffee spot with four locations, psssst: they'll be opening another one in Zurich soon - and I even already know where) ;)
From there we walked through Parc la Grange - we just enjoyed the wonderful weather, the lake and the beauty of that city.
